Maze of Life

Maze of Life

Welcome to The Maze of Life, an immersive and introspective journey through the twists and turns of existence. In this game, you will navigate a maze filled with challenges drawn from the realities of life—financial crises, relationship struggles, health setbacks, career hurdles, and personal growth dilemmas. Each step you take will test your resilience, decision-making, and emotional endurance.

Creative Intent:

In today’s fast-paced world, we are constantly bombarded with information—news, social media updates, and personal stories. People have become quick to judge, comment, and critique others’ experiences, often without pausing to consider the emotions and struggles behind those stories. This tendency to treat others’ lives as entertainment or debate material strips away empathy and humanity.

The Maze of Life is designed as a response to this phenomenon. Its core purpose is to immerse players in the realities of life’s challenges, forcing them to confront complex situations as if they were their own. This isn’t just a game; it’s a tool for fostering understanding, building empathy, and encouraging self-reflection. By the end of the experience, participants will hopefully think twice before passing judgment on others, instead choosing to approach the world with greater compassion.

Game Setup

  1. The Maze:
    • The maze is a 6×6 grid, containing 36 cards:
      • 32 Event Cards: These represent life challenges you must confront.
      • 4 Lucky Cards: Special cards that allow you to skip any one event of your choice.
  2. Shuffling:
    • Shuffle all 36 cards and place them randomly face down in a 6×6 grid.
    • Each row represents a decade of your life, starting in your 20s:
      • Row 1: Ages 20–30
      • Row 2: Ages 30–40
      • Row 3: Ages 40–50
      • Row 4: Ages 50–60
      • Row 5: Ages 60–70
      • Row 6: Ages 70–80
  3. Starting Position:
    • Begin at the first card in Row 1 (your 20s).

Game Rules

  1. Rolling the Dice:
    • Roll a six-sided die to determine which card in the row you must face:
      • 1: First card in the row.
      • 2: Second card in the row.
      • 3: Third card in the row.
      • 4: Fourth card in the row.
      • 5: Fifth card in the row.
      • 6: Sixth card in the row.
  2. Facing Events:
    • Flip over the card matching your dice roll to reveal the life event.
    • If it is an Event Card, write down or discuss:
      • Your Reaction: How does this challenge make you feel?
      • Your Plan: How would you approach this situation?
      • Your Outcome: What do you hope to achieve by overcoming this challenge?
    • If it is a Lucky Card, save it to skip any future event of your choice.
  3. Skipping Events:
    • Use a Lucky Card to bypass an event that feels too difficult or unwanted.
    • Discard the Lucky Card after use.
  4. Advancing Through the Maze:
    • Once you complete or skip an event, roll the dice again to proceed to the next card in the same row.
    • After completing all six cards in a row, advance to the next row (representing the next decade of your life).
  5. Completing the Challenge:
    • Successfully finish all six rows to complete your journey through life.
    • If you fail to overcome an event or run out of Lucky Cards before finishing Row 6, the challenge ends in failure.

Winning and Reflection

  • Victory: Completing all six rows signifies that you’ve navigated through life’s trials and emerged stronger. Reflect on your journey:
    • Which challenges were the hardest?
    • How did you use your Lucky Cards?
    • What does this game reveal about your problem-solving style and resilience?
  • Failure: If you cannot finish all rows, consider:
    • What challenges stopped your progress?
    • What would you do differently next time?

Battle to the Last

This conveys the intensity and determination of the game while maintaining its focus on accessibility and teamwork

.

Objective

Players form two teams of two (2v2). The goal is to eliminate all opponents by reducing their health to zero or to gain strategic control of the board through power-ups, positioning, and teamwork.

Setup

Players: 4 players, split into two teams of two.

Health: Each player starts with 3 health points.

Starting Positions: Players randomly begin at one of the S tiles in the four corners.

Hand Cards: Each player starts with:

1 Attack Card (+1 to +3 attack points, randomized).

1 Defense Card (+1 to +3 defense points, randomized).

Board Elements:

Teleport Point (T): Allows players to teleport to any unoccupied tile.

Power-Up Tiles (?): Grants a random power-up card upon landing.

Card Tiles (C): Grants a random attack or defense card.

Obstacles (X): Tiles that cannot be crossed or landed on.

Gameplay

  1. Turn Order

Each player takes turns rolling a six-sided dice and moves according to the result:

1: Move left.

2: Move diagonally forward-left.

3: Move forward.

4: Move diagonally forward-right.

5: Move right.

6: Move backward.

  1. Movement Rules

Players must follow the dice direction unless blocked by an obstacle (X) or the board edge.

If a player lands on:

C (Card Tile): Draws a random attack or defense card (up to 3 cards in hand).

? (Power-Up Tile): Draws a random power-up card.

T (Teleport Point): May instantly teleport to any unoccupied tile.

  1. Hand Management

Maximum hand size: 3 cards. If a new card is drawn while at the limit, discard one card.

Cards are played during battles or special actions (e.g., traps, debuffs).

  1. Combat

Combat occurs when two players are within 1 tile of each other. The attacking player initiates the challenge.

Combat Process:

Both players roll a dice.

Players may play cards to boost attack or defense.

Compare final scores:

Higher score wins; loser loses 1 health.

In case of a tie, neither player takes damage.

Special Cards: Power-ups or traps may influence the combat outcome.

  1. Team Strategy

Team members can coordinate movement and support each other in battles.

Players can use the Teleport Point strategically to assist teammates or escape danger.

Victory Conditions

A team loses when both players have 0 health.

Alternatively, victory can be determined by controlling strategic areas (e.g., teleport point or power-up tiles) for a certain number of turns.

Additional Mechanics

Power-Up Cards:

Provide unique abilities such as healing, extra moves, or combat buffs.

Obstacles (X):

Players must navigate around these tiles, creating choke points and strategic paths.

Randomization:

Card draws and dice rolls ensure no two games are the same, balancing strategy with luck.

Game Duration

Estimated playtime: 20-40 minutes, depending on the number of battles and strategic use of cards and teleportation.

Playtest feedback

  1. This 2v2 combat game shows promise in teamwork, though excessive RNG overshadows strategic depth. Consider reducing randomness, enhancing strategic elements, and improving pacing for a smoother gameplay experience.
  2. It’s a really fun game

Welcome to a unique collaborative music relay game! In this project, each participant will create a 16-clicks segment of music. However, there’s a twist: you won’t be able to hear the melodies or rhythms played by the participants before you.

materials: keyboard based on phone, laptop

How it works:asdasd

  1. Blind Relay: I was inspired by the telephone game. Each participant will compose and play their own 16 clicks of music, without knowing what the previous person has played. After 8 clicks of metronome played, you can start your composition. When some one is playing, other members need to stand outside classroom.
  2. Creativity Unleashed: You can follow any style, rhythm, or mood that inspires you. Let your creativity flow without boundaries!
  3. Seamless Integration: After everyone has contributed, all the pieces will be stitched together to form a single, continuous musical piece by a digital audio workstation.
  4. Incredible sound: play the sound after mixing, everyone will get a new feeling about their work.
